The 14 games of Pelican Pier

2 and 3 year olds

To get started: few options, big pictures and the teacher’s voice.

  • 1

    Up to the line

The pelican needs water for the boat. Tap the bucket to pour one cup at a time and stop when the water reaches the red line.

  • 2

    The heaviest

There's a hanging scale at the pier. Tap something to hang it: the heavier it is, the lower the pointer goes. Put the heaviest one in the basket.

  • 3

    Fishing log

The pelican marks everything it caught on the chart. Count the fish and the shells and color one box in the column for each one.

  • 4

    Two lines

Now there are two containers, each with its own line. Pour into each one until the water reaches its line.

  • 5

    The lightest

Now the pelican wants the lightest thing. Hang each one: the lightest one keeps the pointer highest up.

More pieces that look alike, asking for attention and memory.

  • 6

    How many cups

How many cups of water fit in each container? Pour and count, one at a time, until it's full. Then say how many fit.

    Weigh the box

The boxes at the pier all look the same on the outside! Hang each one on the scale, read the number where the pointer stops and keep the one with the weight we ask for.

    Catch of the day

Today the net brought up a bit of everything: fish, shells, starfish and even an old boot! Make the chart and say what came up the most.

  • 9

    Light to heavy

The boat carries the boxes in order: first the lightest, then the heavier ones. Weigh them all and put away the lightest one each time.
